Life Below Water

Al-Maarif University Sustainability Initiatives

The fourteenth Sustainable Development Goal aims to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas, rivers, and aquatic ecosystems. Rivers and marine ecosystems provide food, medicines, economic opportunities, and essential environmental services, while also contributing to biodiversity and climate resilience.

In Iraq, river ecosystems are deeply connected to civilization, culture, and daily life. Al-Maarif University College recognizes the importance of protecting aquatic environments, especially local river systems such as the Euphrates River in Al-Anbar.

Through education, awareness, and sustainability-oriented activities, the University supports responsible environmental behavior and encourages students and society to understand the importance of life below water.
