University of Al-Maarif – Department of Nursing Celebrates International Nurses Day with Awareness and Humanitarian Initiatives

The Department of Nursing at the University of Al-Maarif (UOA) organized a series of educational and community activities in celebration of International Nurses Day, reflecting the department’s commitment to its humanitarian, ethical, and professional mission in promoting public health and community service.

The celebration began with an awareness campaign held on campus, featuring active participation from nursing faculty members, administrative staff, and students. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle habits. It included the distribution of educational materials on balanced nutrition, physical activity, and stress prevention, in addition to providing free health screenings, such as:

  • Blood pressure measurement
  • Blood glucose measurement
  • Body weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment

These services were offered to students, faculty, and administrative employees, encouraging early detection and proactive health monitoring.

The event also featured interactive health quizzes and student-led activities promoting appreciation for the nursing profession. Participants wrote thank-you messages and tribute notes recognizing the crucial role nurses play in healthcare systems and society.

As part of the humanitarian dimension of the celebration, a group of nursing students, accompanied by supervising faculty members, visited a local elderly care center. The visit included memory stimulation activities, recreational engagement, and supportive conversations, highlighting the emotional, social, and therapeutic value of nursing care for the elderly.

Additionally, representatives from the Department of Nursing participated in a regional scientific forum on the future of nursing education, which focused on enhancing competency-based learning and integrating technological advancements—particularly digital healthcare training and artificial intelligence applications—into clinical education. This reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to align its academic curriculum with modern healthcare advancements.
