As part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness among members of society regarding the dangers of drug abuse and its negative effects on the individual, the family, and the community. Under the patronage and presence of the President of University of Al Maarif, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Abdulrazaq Alsaadi, and with the participation of a number of college deans and faculty members, the College of Dentistry at University of Al Maarif organized an awareness seminar entitled:
“The Impact of Drugs on the Individual and Iraqi Society”,
on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
The seminar was delivered by:
- Legal Advisor Mr. Marwan Mohammed Abdullah – Head of the Relations and Media Division.
- Senior Translator Mr. Waleed Khalid Mohammed – Head of the Training Division and Director of the Forensic Laboratory.
- Dr. Samar Helu Hamdallah – Faculty Member at the College of Dentistry.
The seminar addressed several key topics, including:
• Types of drugs and their health and social risks.
• Causes leading to addiction and methods of prevention.
• The role of the family and educational institutions in protecting youth.
• Laws and penalties related to drug use and trafficking.
In conclusion, lecturers emphasized the importance of joint efforts among educational, security, and healthcare institutions to spread community awareness about the dangers of drugs and protect young people from falling into this serious issue. They also stressed that prevention begins with promoting cultural values within the family, school, and university.
The seminar witnessed active engagement from students and attendees, whose discussions and contributions enriched the session and deepened understanding of its social and legal dimensions.
