Health Collaborations (3.3.1)

Introduction:

University of Al-Maarif (UOA) systematically monitors and reports the number and proportion of students graduating from health-related disciplines as a core indicator of its contribution to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being. The university offers a diverse range of academic programs in the medical and health sciences fields, including Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Equipment Engineering, and Health Informatics, which collectively contribute to strengthening the healthcare workforce at the regional and national levels.

Each academic year, the Office of the Registrar, in coordination with the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Sustainability and Global Rankings Unit, compiles verified and audited graduation data. This process follows a structured methodology where graduation statistics are categorized by academic program, degree level, and specialization, ensuring the completeness, accuracy, and reliability of all reported figures.

The proportion of graduates in health-related programs is calculated according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings methodology, where the total number of graduates in health programs is divided by the overall institutional graduation count for that same academic year. This indicator reflects UOA’s strategic commitment to expanding the number of qualified healthcare professionals who can address current and emerging public health needs.

By consistently preparing graduates who are trained in clinical practice, patient care, laboratory diagnostics, biomedical system management, and digital health solutions, UOA plays a direct and impactful role in:

  • Enhancing the local and national healthcare workforce,
  • Supporting the development of community health systems,
  • Promoting preventive health education and awareness,
  • Contributing to improved medical and social wellbeing outcomes.

These efforts contribute not only to SDG 3, but also reinforce related goals, including:

  • SDG 4: Quality Education – through competency-based health science training,
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – by enabling professional employment pathways,
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – by expanding access to healthcare skills and services.

Through these integrated academic and community-focused initiatives, the University of Al-Maarif continues to strengthen its role as a leading institution advancing health, well-being, and sustainable development in Iraq and the region.
