In alignment with <strong>SDG 07 (Affordable and Clean Energy)<\/strong> and the <strong>Iraq National Energy Strategy 2030<\/strong>, the University has established a comprehensive framework that links academic research with industrial development, government policy, and community impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This report details how Al-Maarif University contributes to clean-energy entrepreneurship and low-carbon technology development through an integrated ecosystem of <strong>research centers, start-up incubation programs, capacity-building initiatives, and policy partnerships<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1.2 Purpose and Scope<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this document is to demonstrate measurable university-level actions that support a sustainable energy transition by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promoting <strong>renewable-energy research and commercialization<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting <strong>technology start-ups<\/strong> and small enterprises in clean-energy sectors,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Providing <strong>technical advisory and policy input<\/strong> to government agencies, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Empowering communities<\/strong> through training and knowledge transfer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The scope covers activities conducted between <strong>2021 and 2024<\/strong>, including funded research projects, innovation grants, community programs, and collaborations with ministries and private industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1.3 Strategic Relevance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Al-Maarif University recognizes that academic institutions must lead the national response to climate and energy challenges. Iraq\u2019s growing population and dependence on hydrocarbons demand new approaches to diversify energy sources and stimulate green innovation. The University\u2019s sustainability vision\u2014<em>\u201cKnowledge for a Resilient Future\u201d<\/em>\u2014guides its academic, operational, and outreach policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Sustainability and Energy Management Office (SEMO)<\/strong> oversees SDG implementation and renewable-energy integration. SEMO collaborates with the <strong>Renewable Energy Research and Innovation Center (RERIC)<\/strong>, created in 2022 to facilitate joint projects with the Ministry of Electricity, the Ministry of Higher Education, and UNDP Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Governance Structure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>University Sustainability Council (USC):<\/strong> sets policy direction and approves strategic targets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SEMO:<\/strong> implements energy projects and data management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>RERIC:<\/strong> conducts research collaboration, and applied innovation<\/strong>. To achieve this, the University has invested in dedicated facilities, funding programs, and partnerships aimed at accelerating renewable-energy technologies and sustainable practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the <strong>Renewable Energy Research and Innovation Center (RERIC)<\/strong>, established in 2022, Al-Maarif serves as a <strong>national research hub<\/strong> supporting Iraq\u2019s clean-energy transition.
