1. Introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The University of Al Maarif (UOA)<\/strong>, located in the city of Anbar, Iraq, has made a transformative commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong> through its educational mission. In alignment with SDG 17.4.2<\/strong>, which calls for the establishment of dedicated degree or elective courses focusing on sustainability and the SDGs<\/em>, UOA has strategically restructured its academic programs to embed sustainability as a cross-cutting theme across all disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university recognizes that addressing Iraq\u2019s pressing socio-economic and environmental challenges requires an education system that not only imparts knowledge but also cultivates critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and ethical leaders<\/em> equipped to contribute to national reconstruction and sustainable growth. By offering full-degree programs and elective courses centered on sustainability and SDG education<\/strong>, the University of Al Maarif demonstrates its leadership in transforming higher education into a driver of sustainable development, peace, and resilience in post-conflict Iraq.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Strategic Vision and Institutional Alignment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The integration of SDG-focused courses at UOA is part of its broader vision to align academic programs with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/strong> and Iraq\u2019s National Development Plan (2021\u20132025)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university\u2019s sustainability strategy emphasizes four key objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To implement SDG 17.4.2 effectively, the University of Al Maarif developed an SDG Curriculum Framework (2023\u20132030)<\/strong>\u2014a roadmap ensuring that sustainability themes are embedded throughout academic programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
